From hidden coves only reachable by boat to lively shores steps from Casa Las Amapas — a curated guide to the most beautiful beaches in Puerto Vallarta.
Few destinations in Mexico offer the variety of coastline you'll find in Puerto Vallarta. From the dramatic granite coves of the Zona Romántica to the jungle-fringed bays only reachable by panga, every beach has its own personality. Staying at Casa Las Amapas puts you within walking distance of some of the most beloved shores in Banderas Bay, and within a short drive — or boat ride — of the wilder, quieter ones.
Playa Las Amapas — your home beach
Just steps down the hill from the villa, Playa Las Amapas is a quiet stretch of golden sand framed by tropical greenery. Mornings here are tranquil, with locals jogging along the shore and pelicans diving for breakfast. It's the perfect spot to start the day with coffee from the villa terrace before the bay wakes up.
Playa Los Muertos — the social heart
A ten-minute walk south brings you to Playa Los Muertos, the most iconic beach in the city. Beach clubs like Mantamar, La Palapa and Swell line the sand, and the new Los Muertos Pier glows turquoise at sunset. Order ceviche and a cold Pacífico, and let the afternoon stretch.
Conchas Chinas — secret coves and tide pools
Drive five minutes south and you'll find a string of hidden coves carved between rock formations. Conchas Chinas is ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and watching the sun drop behind the Sierra Madre. Bring water shoes and explore the natural pools at low tide.
Yelapa, Las Ánimas and Quimixto
For a true escape, catch a water taxi from Boca de Tomatlán to the southern beaches of Banderas Bay. Yelapa is a sleepy fishing village with palapa restaurants and a waterfall hike. Las Ánimas is wider and family friendly. Quimixto is the quietest of the three — bring a book and stay for lunch.
What to pack
- Reef-safe sunscreen (mineral-based protects the bay)
- Water shoes for rocky coves like Conchas Chinas
- Cash in small bills for water taxis and palapa restaurants
- A light cover-up for the walk back through town
Ask our concierge before you head out — boat times shift with the season, and a few of the best beach clubs require reservations on weekends.
